What kind of help do you need?Need Urgent Help or Support?
At some point in our lives, we all experience dark thoughts of wishing we were dead or of hurting ourselves in some way. However, when you are depressed or anxious these thoughts can become more intense, more upsetting and acting on these sometimes can feel like a good way to make your problems go away. Thoughts, although distressing, are very different from actions.
What shall I do if I have these thoughts?
If you are feeling distressed or in despair, it is crucial that you try to speak to somebody now!
- Is there a family member or a friend you could call?
- Is there a neighbour or colleague who can help?
- Tell your GP
What shall I do if I think I might act on these thoughts?
It is crucial you keep yourself safe - this is an emergency situation, and you must....
- Request an emergency GP appointment at your surgery - they will be able to get you specialist support and help.
- Call NHS 111 - for GP out of hours if your GP surgery is closed
- Call Worcestershire Crisis Service 0808 196 9127 - if you are in crisis and feel unable to keep yourself safe.
If you or anyone else is in immediate danger or harm, then please call the Police or Ambulance Service on 999.
Get emotional support:
Emotional support lines are there to listen to how you are feeling and you can talk to an impartial person in confidence about anything. Sharing your problems can be helpful to manage your feelings and often people on helplines will have their own experience of mental health issues.
